Projectors can be used to project an image from either the rear or front of the screen. Front projection is the most common and the easiest to install. If you prefer to project the image on the screen from the rear, please note it would be best to get a video projector that can project a large image at a short distance since the distance between the projector and the screen can take up a lot room space. Rear projectors and screens should be setup in very large rooms where this space should not be an issue. Also, it is a must that you purchase a screen that is designed specifically for rear projection use.

Rear projection is the use of a projector to transmit the image through a screen to the viewer or audience. In this case, the screen should transmit an image with true optical clarity and brightness. A higher intensity screen is necessary as the light rays are forced through the screen to the audience. The projector is hidden to the audience, but space should be left backstage between it and the screen, in order to prevent casting shadows on the surface. Because the image is usually projected on an angle directly perpendicular to the screen distortion is usually not an issue.
